Artist Biography
Holly was born and raised in Alberta and has a diverse cultural background including being a member of M’Chigeeng First Nation Band. Growing up she always had a passion for the arts. As a teenager, she taught herself to paint by following along with Bob Ross on television. After living in Saskatchewan for a few years, she graduated from the University of Regina with a minor in visual arts. She is familiar with many mediums but chooses to focus in oils, acrylics and alcohol inks. Holly paints mainly wildlife, and abstract. Her pieces hang in private collections in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and England.
Artist Statement
I have always had an artists’ soul and have found ways to express myself since I was a child. There has never been a time in my life when I was not creating. In the arts, I am able to create my own magical worlds. Drawing inspiration from nature and the beauty of color, I hope to leave people feeling happy when they look at my work. I want them to share in the beauty of my world.
I love to experiment in various mediums and learn new techniques. I have an appreciation for both abstract and classical style paintings. I try to create both of these styles in my own work using different mediums. While I have worked with pastels and watercolors, I am continually drawn back to using acrylic, oil and alcohol inks. I love them all for their different qualities. When I paint portraits or wildlife I tend to work in acrylic and oils. I like to paint in classical techniques when I use those mediums. Using alcohol inks is a very freeing and calming experience for me. I do not think about what I’m going to paint, but rather I let the color guide me and go wherever it takes me. It is one of my favorite ways to de-stress and create.
Art Instruction Experience
I have taught several workshops in alcohol inks and have given several private lessons in alcohol inks and oils.
