Artist Biography
I began my love of painting in the 1960’s taking my first art course with Harry Savage at the University of Alberta, Department of Extension. After living in several rural remote areas of Alberta, Hinton, Skyline Forestry Ranger Station, (west of Claresholm) Fort McMurray, Whitecourt , Bragg Creek, Cochrane and finally St. Albert, gave me many memories of beautiful vistas and introductions to many different artists and their methods of painting.

My fondest memory through the years of painting is of an elderly English WW II bride (Molly Hern) a graduate of Slade University of Fine Arts in London, England. She imparted her love of watercolors by patiently instructing me while she so adeptly painted her beautiful still life and landscape depictions. I sat beside her in awe, totally enraptured by the medium. At 4:00 p.m. on these Sunday afternoon lessons, her numerous antique clocks would chime simultaneously and her husband would call us up from her studio to “tea”. All of this for $5.00 for three hours of instruction! (in 1986/87) This lovely memory holds a special place in my heart every time I place my hand with brush, to paper and canvas.

To date my artworks are mostly held in private collections with the exception of “Pine Along the St. Lawrence River” which is held by the City of St. Albert. This painting was painted from my photograph taken along a boat cruise among the Thousand Islands of the St. Lawrence River, Ontario, Canada .
Artist Statement
My influences are first and foremost in everything I see and experience. Capturing the excitement and discovery that initially drew me to the subject matter is my primary creative goal. Paintings of the old masters and impressionists have influenced my style of painting; layering paint and attention to light, color, brushstroke and form. Watercolor painting is also a passion for me as it lends itself to the ethereal beauty of flowers; a favorite subject.
