Artist Biography

Gail Seemann was born in Saskatchewan, but has lived most of her life in Alberta, where she and her husband have raised two sons. For three decades she used her artist’s creativity to style hair, teach cosmetology, and only make occasional forays into painting classes. As her sons headed into college she decided it was time to shift her priorities. She was able to retire from teaching while taking fine art courses. While completing an apprenticeship program through Artra Art School she was delighted to find a world of subjects to paint! She often carries her camera with her to bring inspiration back to her studio. She continues to take workshops from artists she admires to stimulate development of new ideas and techniques.

Artist Statement

The painting process is meditative for me, even as it is creative and stimulating. Working with pigments and varied mediums lets me play with colour and light, capturing moods from peaceful to dramatic. Scenes may be a precious moment in time, an idealized landscape, or an imagined fantasy. Oil paints are my preferred medium, giving me the chance to create the soft blends that show the flow and ebb their intensity.
